Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Who can take the Texas EMT Course:
A candidate for emergency medical services (EMS) certification shall:
(1) be at least 18 years of age;
(2) have a high school diploma or GED certificate

Program Overview:
The online EMT program equips you for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam and a dynamic career as an EMT.
​
Approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), this program meets the state’s licensure requirements.
​
The EMT program includes three key components: online coursework, a hands-on Skills Lab, and clinical/field experiences, both of which must be completed in person.
​

Online Information:
Online learning environment focuses on content mastery rather than class time.
​
Our courses utilize adaptive learning technologies to assess your existing knowledge and provide additional support where needed, allowing you to progress at your own pace and spend more time on challenging areas.

The EMT course’s online content must be completed within the allotted time, though many students finish sooner. Success in this online course requires motivation and want of the student.
​
This course is rigorous and will challenge you, but support is available if you need it. You can schedule online tutoring sessions with instructors for extra help. To prepare you for the NREMT Cognitive Examination, we offer multiple opportunities to take out mock exams that predict your success on the National Registry Exam.
These practice exams will help build your confidence.

All you need to get started is a laptop, tablet, or smartphone with internet access. Sorry no chrome books as it will not work with the LMS.

Skills Information:
In the hands-on Skills Lab, you will practice, receive feedback on, and demonstrate your EMT psychomotor skills. You will also have access to our video-based skills training library, online resources, and experienced EMT instructors to help build your confidence.

To complete this part of the program, you must attend a Skills Lab conducted by Ruiz Training Center certified EMS Instructors.

Clinical and Field Internships
You’ll participate in Clinical Experiences and Field Experiences at an EMS organization and affiliate hospitals in Texas. During this phase of the program, you’ll gain hands-on experience and have an opportunity to put your skills into practice through real patient contact, while guided by experienced EMS and medical personnel.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Who can take the Texas AEMT Course:
Any Texas Certified EMT or active NREMT EMT certification.
